Artist Bio
I've always had a connection to nature and a deep-seated curiosity and creativity. I explored collage and mosaic art for years, but I always harbored a desire to explore the world of watercolors. Retirement afforded me the time to learn and experiment with this new medium which celebrates the organic intersections between intuition and technique. With no previous training, I dove in and fell passionately in love.
I approach art with both passion and stubborn perseverance. I focus on texture to mirror the raw elegance of nature. My techniques, driven by exploration and spontaneity, reflect my belief in art as a living, breathing entity. I paint intuitively, layering intense mixtures of watercolor onto wet paper, using a pipette or pouring pigment from a small cup to create vibrant and textured designs. Although I do paint from sketches and reference photos as well, I find the most joy in allowing the pigment to guide the evolution of the painting. This results in fascinating abstract landscapes and organic forms.
Outside of painting, I find joy in combining creativity and nature in gardening, landscape design and creating habitats for pollinators. I enjoy spending time with our four dogs, reading and spending time with my family.
Come along on my journey into watercolor! There is boundless potential for creativity at any stage of life.
