About the Artist

Karyn Neklason is a self-taught watercolor artist based in Boise, Idaho, whose work explores the resonance between nature, memory, and abstraction. After years working in photography, mosaic, and collage, she turned to watercolor as a medium that embraces unpredictability, intuition, and organic form.

Her paintings emerge through an intuitive, water-driven process, using richly mixed pigment, gravity, tilting, spraying, and selective lifting to build flowing textures and dynamic forms. Inspired by landscape, botanical forms, and natural systems, her work moves between abstraction and recognizable imagery, inviting viewers into spaces that feel both familiar and dreamlike.

Texture plays a central role in her practice, reflecting the ways light, weather, movement, and time leave their marks on the natural world. She approaches each painting as a living process—one that evolves through attention, patience, and responsiveness to the materials.

Karyn’s work has been selected for juried and curated exhibitions including the Idaho Watercolor Society Annual Juried Exhibition, Treasure Valley Artists Alliance OPUS, Viv-ID and Purple+, the Art Source Gallery Annual Juried Exhibition, Create Gallery and Frame’s Bold Women, Soft Walls, and Arts Alive! in Humboldt County, California. She is a member of the Treasure Valley Artists Alliance and the Idaho Watercolor Society.

Recent selections include Rabbit Hill for the Idaho Watercolor Society’s 2026 Annual Juried Exhibition and Where Light Takes Root for the 2026 Art Source Gallery Annual Juried Exhibition.
