Granny’s Fenton Vase

Granny’s Fenton Vase is a loose, expressive floral inspired by the woman who gave me my love of flowers.
My Granny especially loved bearded iris, sweet peas, and hydrangeas, and I still have one of her white hobnail Fenton vases. In this painting, I reimagined it in blue—a nod to her eyes—using layered watercolor, acrylic ink, soft blooms, bold leaves, and textured marks to create something that feels more like memory than still life.
The vase texture was created with bubble wrap to suggest the raised hobnail surface of Fenton glass, while the flowers were built through sprayed water, concentrated pigment, blotting, ink, and gestural marks.
