Where Light Takes Root
12 x 12 inches
Original watercolor on archival paper
Light settles quietly in this piece—filtering through layered trunks, catching on textured bark, and opening into a soft, luminous center. The trees feel both grounded and in motion, their forms shaped by flowing pigment and shifting water, echoing the way growth happens unseen beneath the surface.
Built through an intuitive wet-on-wet process, the painting leans into contrast—earthy reds and deep browns against turquoise, moss, and mineral blues. Granulation and natural pigment separation create the intricate surface textures, suggesting roots, bark, and the slow passage of time.
This work holds a sense of stillness and emergence at once—a place where light doesn’t just pass through, but settles in and begins to grow.
